Open energy intelligence
Phoenix Energy Lab is building an AI-enabled, open-access platform for energy data, models and insights, so that the decisions shaping the energy transition rest on transparent, rigorous and timely evidence.
The world's most consequential energy decisions depend on analysis that is often paywalled, updated infrequently and hard to scrutinise. Meanwhile open energy data has matured and artificial intelligence has cut the cost of building complex analytical systems. Phoenix Energy Lab brings these together.
Our object is to develop, maintain and make publicly available an open platform for energy-related data, models, tools, analysis and insights, for the benefit of governments, international organisations, regulators, financial institutions, companies, media, civil society, academia and the wider public. The mission is to accelerate action to limit climate change in line with the Paris Agreement, while addressing energy access, security and affordability.
A modular platform in three layers. Each delivers value on its own and strengthens the others.
Curated open datasets from leading providers, integrated and extended with AI-assisted cleaning, gap-filling and validation, and published back to the open commons.
A set of interconnected open-source modules, with electricity generation at the hub, that can be scrutinised, improved and re-run as technologies, markets and policies change.
Continuous data-driven facts, rapid analysis when events move markets, and system-level scenarios, delivered through publications, dashboards and tools.
Phoenix Energy Lab is an independent foundation established by three organisations with deep experience in energy-transition analysis.
Stichting Phoenix Energy Lab is a not-for-profit foundation seated in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. It has no profit motive and applies all of its resources to its charitable object.
